Today has been a bit of a busy day on 2 of my rigs. This morning was the first time I managed to get involved with the local club (MX0WRC's) net. Only because I was cycling up Dent at the time mind you but nice enough to get involved. The talk was centered around 4m rigs and developing a bit of a local  group that use this band. Its not something that springs to mind with me might but as long as I can find a cheap rig then I'll get on board. I reckon a hand hand might not do it but I'm loathed to get another rig and antenna that just won't get out of the St Bees bowl. We'll have to see. On the main rig I have had a few nice QSO's on bands which seem to have got nicer as the evening went on, so much so that HC5AI was clear as day on 14Mhz and a bit quiet on 21Mhz but as is the way a Ecuadorian QSO was just a step too far for me
The other thing I found out today is about CQ Friends during a QSO with PA9JO this evening. I've dutifully signed up and now have at least on friend. What with that and Google latitude and Google+ I think I've got most of the bases covered as far as social media and APRS for when I don't fancy making things too easy. Now all I need to do is find a way to integrate those aspects into this site and I'm getting to grips with this web business.
Amateur radio has to be one of the most social hobbies. In its rawest form you just have a chat with someone else. They could be in your own back garden on in the ISS or just about anywhere. I don't see these internet based add ons as a hindrance or even as something to be avoided, on the contrary I like to feel part of a like minded group.
