Today I tried very hard to trot up to the top of goat fell. Well we managed to make it to the summit through the snow which was in places up to our thighs. To put this perspective I am a regular runner and cyclist and I have to admit this was hard work. I got the gear out and called cq and was met by a few returning stations. Unfortunately it was so windy and the snow was being blown so hard it made it almost impossible to hear. To cap it all off my log sheet was obliterated in the operation.
Still very enjoyable and well worth more than 4 points in this weather. Time for a beer and the afternoon in front of the rugby
Hi Alex, I got a phone call yesterday about your activation, but unfortunately I was too late to get you. GM7GAX and myself - 2M0IOB activated Goatfell earlier last year. The WX for us was very warm and sunny. GAX and myself keep blogs and if you are interested you can read about our time on the hills by doing a simple search for either call sign. You're a brave man for heading out yesterday in the conditions, maybe get you another time, possibly STS. All the best and stay safe in the hills. Roddy 2M0IOB.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comment Roddy. The conditions weren't good and we had a few stops to assess if it was a good idea to continue. There were a few others on the hill who seemed to be a bit worried. It was the wind at the summit that was the big problem. We both felt cold after only a few minutes standing still. Today is a much better day.
