I do like a good fiddle with antennas. OT being very gifted in the circuit department I find home brewing antennas a bit of fun. I hve 2 exceptions to this. Firstly my Hustler 6-BTV which has been a stalwart in high winds and corrosive, salty air and although it needs a bit of attention at the moment it made me think that I would need a good backup antenna in the loft.
I bought a Watson 80 plus 2 the other day and spent an hour or so assembling the various parts as its more of a kit to keep the cost down. Put it in the loft and made sure there was at least a reasonable signal coming through. Which of course there was. I have to tune it properly and will do that once I've borrowed an antenna analyser. Something I don't have and clearly need. I'll expect that conversation with the xyl later.
So far an easy antenna to make up and probably a good quick one when 'portable' in Scotland but I'd still like to put together the cobwebb for the trip to Arran in March.
