Summer Es…where?

Lets just say my entry into the UKSMG Summer Es contest won’t be missed. After spending a few hours putting up antennas and setting up all the equipment in a quiet corner of the mother in laws house last weekend I didn’t get very far. Having had a few easy QSO’s into southern Europe a few days beforehand I had at least some hopes, not high ones but some at least.

Not a single QSO. Not one completed QSO. I could barely hear a station in Paisley and the GB3NGI beacon got weaker and weaker as the weekend went on. I think I’ll have to get a bigger antenna! now how do you go about getting permission for that from your mother in law?

Maybe next year……

  1. DX Sherlock has showed several Es openings on 10m and 6m, and even a 2m one, but the red lines indicating contacts rarely reach as far as here. There's a 6m opening on now as I type, but I can't hear a damn thing.

  2. It was a weekend of white noise Julian. Plenty of openings further south but Ayrshire was empty. Made me think St Bees isn't as bad as all that. Still I found a useful tool called live MUF which I'll have to find a link for. Complimented DX Sherlock well, even if the output was depressing.
