Wainwrights on the air weekend

There are currently plans to make the August bank holiday (27th to 29th) a Wainwrights on the air weekend. I'm very much in favour of this and support the efforts to get the realtively small bunch of hardy souls some more national recognition. I'm planning on takingon part if not all of the Ennerdale horseshoe. Which, for the uninitiated is a ring around Ennerdale lake (one of my favourite places in th elake district, partly becasue it is very close to home and prtly because its quiet and relatively unvisited compared to the likes of Derwent or Windemere).

The route takes me in potential contact with 18 peaks which are as follows

OrderPeakHeight in m
1Great Borne616
2Starling Dodd633
3Red Pike (Buttermere)755
4High Stile807

As you can see it's going to be quite a challenge, approximately 12 hours of effort not including the activations. A long day in anyones books, still , I'm up for the challenge and ready to take on the horseshoe. Believe it or not some people actually run it! For a bit of fun here is the profile with height in m on the y axis and the peaks on the x axis starting from ennerdale water at ~120m ASL

  1. My knees went weak just looking at that chart. But good luck with the activations. Hopefully I'll make contact with you from at least some of them.
