Digimodes and low end pc's

Yesterday I had a little spin with a digimode that I've not had a chance to play with before, JT65. Iused the software from the sourceforge site thats been recommended by a few other bloggers and hams.

The mode has a very music quality when listening to it and like many of the weak signal modes tend to rely on 1 minute TX and RX cycles that generally mean low power to me (5-10 watts).

Unfortunately my pc was able to clearly display the mode in amongst the other more familiar and urgent PSK signals but decoding it proved to be a struggle. This is where using an atom based pc lets you down and it might be time for a new one. This is a shame because I'm not keen on shelling out for a new one but I clearly need one to make use of these modes. Especially as it would stop me buying other gear that I could frankly do with.

So the likelihood is that I'll miss out on this mode which is a shame as it is strangely addictive. Call it the pied piper of weak signals but the tones had me hooked very quickly.
