Nasty bug

I've picked up a bit of a bug over the last few weeks and unfortunately its catching. A two pronged attack from Summits on the Air (SOTA) and Wainwrights on the Air (WOTA) has left me feeling the need to go outside, walk up a hill / fell (although being a from the flatlands of Cambridgeshire I should call anything higher than a sleeping policeman a mountain) and talk into a plastic and metal box in the hope that someone will talk back.

Symptoms include outbursts of 'Its not that bad out there' when its pouring down with rain and you can't see more than 10 metres ahead of yourself and a scamping over OS maps with a pen and paper. Also watch out for signs of buying bits of gear and leaving them at the bottom of the fell when you need them at the top.

Cataloging your exploits is also an issue. Also keep an eye out for a nasty desire to get more points than the neighbour.

Here's my (pretty poor) effort so far. If you fancy adding a new reason for theXYL to question your sanity then I couldn't suggest a better option. Needing little in the way of expensive radio gear as a  5W 2m handie will get you started, just don't expect to work VK from Ben Nevis. The sense of achievement in my opion is just as big if not bigger when you hit your first mile (read mill) stone. Enjoy
