Wouldn't it be nice if....

A small yet simple addition to many rigs could possibly make the first part of ownership a little easier.

I could put my 2p in about serial versus usb or 3.5mm jack but I think that could open an enormous can of worms. So lets just say standardise or supply the lead with the rig. It can't cost much but nowadays there are a number of extras you can do with a computer that just make life easier and sticking a cable in the box which works on a Kenwood, Ten Tec, Icom, Yaesu or whoever is the manufacturer would do us all a favour and cut down on waste. I now have 3 different cables for 3 different rigs.

What I was actually going to say is to do with memory management. All of the rig based methods of inputing the information have made me stop doing it because it takes forever, not to say impossible but inpractical for hundreds of memories. My IC7000 memory banks were gently filled  after years of procrastination and eventually finding a piece of software that managed it without crashing before doing anything. Wouldn't it be nice if when you get a handheld, for example, it comes with a set up that allows you to by default have the repeaters, SOTA & APRS frequencies (if it has that feature), names etc in the memory based on a simple 'put call sign here' set up screen and 'do you want the default memories installed?' question. At the very least it would save me time and make my use of the rig a lot less 'administrative'.

By all means have a 'blank them all' setting but itshigh time simple add ons like thiswould improve ownership and user experience...Tin hat at the ready;-)
