The more I use my VX8-GR the more I like it. I can tolerate the slow GPS response in the same way I had to tolerate my VW Beetle's not so automatic choke (I had to run round the back to activate it then knock it off when the engine warmed up). So after being a bit nervous about spending nearly £400 on it via the internet without even seeing one in the flesh its now one of the family. So much so that I'll be making up a computer connection cable shortly.
I was rummaging around in my garage for a suitable donor cable whenI came across a 2.5mm to Serial connector that I got with my Garmin Forerunner GPS (That since has been liberated by my sister). Quickly checking the pins showed that they are almost the same. Yaesu ask for pins 7 & 8 to be shorted which isn't the case with this one but nearly there with something out of a junk drawer. Not everyonein the house was as impressed.
Needless to say I've planned a small bridge bodge with an unused connector, so fingers crossed the connection will work.
