Local issues

Whilst it won't have escaped most peoples attention that our sleepy community has been in the news this week for all the wrong reasons.

A very unsettling series of events took place yesterday where a man went on a shooting spree killing and injuring many. One of my cycling friends happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time and came face to face with the gun man. Whilst he wasn't singled out for whatever reason he is lucky to be alive and understandably shaken about attempting to administer first aid to one of the random victims.

Whilst the media will eventually dissipate these events will leave a scare on the beautiful area that I am privileged to live in. I hope that the community is able to come to terms with these events which it will do in time.

  1. I guess your friend was the one who was interviewed on the TV. Our thoughts are with him and everyone else who witnessed this terrifying rampage as well as those who knew or were related to the many victims.

Normally you see such events on the TV and feel that "it couldn't happen here." We only live just up the road but to learn that people were shot in places we often visit and on roads that we ourselves often go along makes it much more real and disturbing.

  2. He was Julian. The guy with the yellow t shirt. The town is a strange place. Full of TV crews. Probably quite similar to when you had the floods. Felt very odd going through town a few hours ago.

  3. Horrific and upsetting. We had been in the area for the bank holiday. The gunman would have passed where we were staying on his way to where he dumped his car in the Boot area. I was very glad we had not been there for the week. It feels like a close brush with something terrible.
